Over this weekend the Secret Garden will be open under the National Gardens Scheme from 2pm to 5pm each day.
Come and enjoy our Secret Garden with its unique selection of Rhododendron, Magnolia and Camellia – gathered from all parts of the world, planted and cared for here at Hilfield by Br. Vincent. Other choice shrubs include bamboo, azalea and many more. In spring you can admire a growing collection of loderi hybrids.
Almost 30 years ago Br Vincent began his work of transformation of this hidden scrap of ancient woodland. With much dedication and love he turned it into a hidden gem, a refuge of quiet and beauty: Small paths and bridges lead you along and across many streams. Several benches along the paths invite you to sit and relax – allowing your soul to be touched and nourished by nature.
The Friary grounds also comprehend meadows with livestock and woods.
Both the main areas of the Friary and the private road are wheelchair accessible.
Tea, coffee and a good choice of friary-made cakes are awaiting you in the refectory – free of charge.
Stout shoes are recommended for your walk through the Secret Garden.
The Entrance Fee of £5 will be donated to charities.
